Responding to bullying in your school
Are you having any of the following problems at school:
- name calling;
- verbal degrading or shouting;
- fighting;
- threatening behaviour;
- MSM/BEBO/Facebook messages; or
- any type of behaviour where you feel hurt or alone?
You can get
support.
The service offered by West Sussex County Council (WSCC) is not
about blaming anyone, judging anyone or issuing punishments. It's
about understanding the affect a certain behaviour has had and
finding a way forward to make things better.
An agreement is offered, where you can decide how you are going
to behave around each other from then on. The agreement is then
signed, and a copy is given to everyone concerned, to reduce the
chance of the same thing happening again.
You will have the opportunity to meet with the person causing
you harm and talk through your feelings in a safe place, whether
you are the wrongdoer or the harmed. You can also have a supporter
present. This could be your mum, dad or whoever looks after you. If
you don't want to meet with the other person face to face then we
can meet with you separately and work through a solution that
way.
This service is completely voluntary and
no one is going to make you do anything you don't want to.
If you would like to find out more about this, either ask your
school if they can offer a restorative meeting or get in contact
with Kate Balmforth 01903 718739.
