“The UK is so strict if they catch you with drugs on you. Most
other countries will either over look it or just
confiscate them.” That quote couldn’t be further from the truth;
some countries abroad take a much more zero tolerance policy to
people using drugs than the UK does.
For instance:
- smoke weed in India, and you’ll be looking at 10 years
imprisonment;
- even possessing a small quantity of drugs in Jamaica and you’ll
be put in prison;
- possessing drugs in Spain can mean up to 12 years;
- possessing drugs in Italy can mean up to 20
years;
- Cyprus and Greece can impose a hefty fine or even life
imprisonment for possession;
- in South East Asia you could be looking at between 40-50 years
for possession, and;
- in Algeria, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand,
they all use the death penalty for people who have committed drug
offences.
Don't believe it happens - take a look at this news
item? And after all that, you still want to go ahead and
use them?
You also need to bear in mind that some dealers like to take
advantage of tourists - one lady was approached by a dealer
and she paid £30 for a gram of cocaine... it turned out to be
salt!
