If you’re under 18 this is the procedure if you commit an offence:

  • 1st offence - You will receive a reprimand which is an official warning from the police
  • 2nd offence - You will be given a final warning which, as the name suggests, is your final warning
  • 3rd offence - You will be charged and sent to court where you may receive a conviction which will stay with you for life

It’s important to note that for serious offences you can be sent directly to court.

Reprimands or final warnings are wiped after 5 years. However they will always show up on an extensive criminal record check. This means it can still affect your future career prospects.
