Launched by HighTide and Chichester Festival Theatre
An exciting opportunity for young playwrights to develop new
work from the page to the stage has been launched by HighTide
Writers Academy and Chichester Festival Theatre.
Young people aged 16 to 25 are invited to
apply for an intensive week of writing, mentoring and support which
will be led by a professional writer and director. Participants
will be nurtured as they build the skills and confidence needed to
develop their writing.
The aim is to produce a 10-minute play, a
number of which will be read by actors at the prestigious annual
HighTide Festival in September 2015. The Festival has previously
staged work by award-winning playwrights such as Nick Payne
(Constellations, Blurred Lines) and Ella Hickson
The week-long course is free, and help may be
available with travel and accommodation costs. The scheme is
open to young people living, working or studying in the South or
East of England. Applicants must be available from Tuesday 7 –
Saturday 11 April 2015, and on Sunday 13 September 2015, which is
when the winning plays will be read at the HighTide Festival in
Jonty Boustead, Senior Youth Theatre Leader at
Chichester Festival Theatre, said: “We’re really excited to work
with HighTide to develop the talents of emerging young playwrights.
It’s a fantastic opportunity for young people to be mentored by
inspirational theatre professionals, and to have their work
presented at HighTide’s Festival next year.”
The closing date for applications is 9 January
2015. To apply, or find out more visit hightide.org.uk/academy2015.
