Domestic abuse recovery programme (DARP)

8 weeks

Target Group:

Young people age 13 to 16, who have lived with domestic abuse.

Overview and Content:

  • Getting to know each other
  • What is violence?
  • Sad and difficult things that can happen when there is violence in the family.
  • Violence is not ok
  • I am not the only one this has happened to
  • Feeling good about ourselves
  • Knowing what is a healthy relationship
  • Knowing what to do when you are worried
  • What to do about those mixed up feelings
  • Hopes and fears for the future


Intended Outcomes / Qualifications:

  • To provide a groupwork service to help young people understand and cope with what has happened in their family.
  • Young people will have an opportunity to meet with other young people who have had similar experiences.
  • Young people will develop an understanding that they are not responsible for their parent’s abuse.
  • Young people will develop an understanding of healthy relationships and specifically their own relationship with their carers and other people important to them.
