Play Strategy

The County Play Strategy 2010 -2015

We have written this by working with 3rd Sector and Districts/Borough and Parish Councils, who have their own existing play strategy to support play in your communities.

We understand that being able to play is an important part of your life, at home, at school, in your local park and your local area. We want to make sure that this is understood by everyone; that places are accessible, you feel safe in them and that we involve you in decisions and listen to your opinions.

All children and young people have the right to play and need to play: free to choose what they do – lively or relaxed, noisy or quiet – with the chance to stretch and challenge themselves, take risks and enjoy freedom.
The right to play is enshrined in Article 31 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

What we will do:

•    put children and young people at the heart of the community;

•    make ‘playing out’ safe;

•    make sure Play is a local priority;

•    develop your local community play spaces, and;

•    make sure people understand that Play is a vital part of childhood.

Quality Workforce – Quality Play help people train to be able to support your play
