Black White and Bling Event
The Hawth Theatre in Crawley sparkled with the Black, White and Bling event on Saturday 20 March, which was attended by 250 people and was run by young people for young people involved with the Youth Opportunities Fund.

The evening was ably compared by and Chris and James M, who introduced youth drama, dance and singing groups who all had been successful in bidding for funding. Callum V directed the YOFSCAR awards which were given out to projects that made a positive difference in their local communities. The decision on who to give the awards to was made by young people on the County and Local Youth Forums and, as well as the YOFSCAR trophies, cash awards totalling £250 were given out.

Kolbi, Maddie, Jamie O, John, Chrystal, Tegen, Libby, Jamie N, James T were kept busy ensuring that the
evening ran smoothly, by selling raffle tickets, presenting awards and meeting and greeting everyone, while Kate and Will
both took on the role of photographer. Sophie produced the artwork and made giant cheques which were awarded to the successful
groups.
Young people raised
£70 by running a raffle for the James Alderman Trust, a charity which helps raise funds for children and young people in West
Sussex who have lost limbs to meningitis.
The achievements of all the young people involved in YOF were also celebrated
by cabinet members and other VIPs who attended the evening, including the Leader of the Council, Henry Smith, Stuart Gallimore
director for operations for Children and Young People for West Sussex County Council and the Cabinet Member responsible for
Children and Young People, Pat Arculus.
From April 2010, £750,000 of new funding is available to support future projects and activities. Only by working with
the children and young people can we ensure this money is being allocated to where it is most needed.
