Libraries celebrate LGBT month

Three exciting events to celebrate the national lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) history month in February, are being held at West Sussex Libraries.

A series of talks from well-known LGBT authors and performers are being held:

· Neil Bartlett at Crawley Library, on Monday 1 February from 7pm-8.30pm – Brighton based gay author, director and performer Neil will talk about his work, and with a speaker from LGB charity Stonewall about the education, health and employment rights for LGBT people
· Clare Summerskill at Worthing Library, on Thursday 4 February from 7pm-8.30pm – Lesbian comedienne Clare will perform a cocktail of stand-up and comedy songs
· Mark Rowlands at Shoreham Library, on Thursday 25 February from 7pm-8.30pm – Mark is from the Brighton Ourstory LGB History Centre, and will talk about coming out in Sussex in the 1960s and 70s, and there will be an exhibition from the Ourstory archives.

Drinks and snacks will be available at all events from 6.30pm. There will also be a selection of LGBT library books to borrow, and an exhibition to sign up to the Residents E-panel to get your views heard by the council.

The events are open to everyone, you do not have to be a library member or be from the LGBT community. The events are free, but places are limited, so book a ticket today.

Tickets are available through any West Sussex Library. Visit http://www.westsussex.gov.uk/ccm/navigation/libraries-and-archives/libraries/ for contact details and more information.
